Cured leaf arrives in bales and is opened out, fed onto the line and separated from sand, string and metal. Loose dust and light trash are drawn off before the leaf goes forward.

Leaf is brought to a workable moisture with warm, humidified air so it flexes instead of shattering when cut. Moisture is checked on the way through.

Conditioned leaf and stem are cut to the width the product calls for — fine cut for cigarette and rolling tobacco, coarser for shisha and cigar filler. Cut material is screened to take out fines.

Cut tobacco is dried to bring the moisture back down after conditioning, then cooled before it is stored or blended. The dryer type follows the batch or continuous layout of the plant.

Different grades are weighed out and mixed to a recipe, and casing or flavour is applied where the product uses it — shisha, dokha and flavoured rolling tobacco branch here. Chewing blends such as khaini and zarda take their additives at this stage.

Snuff, tobacco powder, filter khaini and oral pouch fillings need the blend reduced to a fine particle and then classified. This branch runs under dust extraction because the material is airborne.

Finished tobacco is filled by weight into pouches, tins or pouch sachets, sealed, coded and cased. Oral pouch products are formed and filled on their own dedicated equipment.
