Actives and excipients are screened to a common particle size and de-lumped so the blend behaves consistently. Tramp metal is pulled out before the powder enters the granulator.

Binder solution is added to the sifted powder and worked into granules, which flow and compress better than loose powder. Granule size is brought down to a workable range before drying.

Wet granules are dried, then passed through a screen to break down oversized lumps. Moisture is measured on the dried granules before blending.

Dried granules are blended with disintegrants, glidants and lubricant so the mass releases cleanly from the press tooling. Tumbling blenders are used because they mix without shearing the granules.

The lubricated blend is compressed into tablets, which carry loose powder on the surface and edges as they leave the press. Tablets are de-dusted, extracted air is collected, and the stream is screened for metal before coating.

Cores are film or sugar coated in a rotating pan to mask taste, protect the active or carry a delayed release. Warm filtered air is supplied to the pan and the coated tablets are dried in the same drum.

Finished tablets are sealed into strips or thermoformed blisters, then collated into unit cartons with the leaflet. Each pack is weight-checked and coded before it goes into the shipper.
