Sole and foxing compound is mixed with fillers and curing chemicals, while textile and sheet components are cut to pattern. Compound and cut parts are kept in matched batches so a shoe is built from one recipe.

Cut panels, linings and reinforcements are joined into the upper and moved through the closing room in trays.

Bonding faces on the upper and sole are roughed, coated with solvent adhesive and pressed together over the last. Buffing dust and solvent vapour are captured at the bench so the cement bond stays clean and the air stays breathable.

Assembled shoes are vulcanised in a heated chamber so the sole, foxing and upper cure into one unit. Steam, hot air and exhaust treatment for the chamber come from the plant utility block.

Shoes are de-lasted, cleaned, laced or finished, and checked for bond, shape and pairing before packing.

Pairs are boxed by size, coded and collated into master cartons and palletised for despatch.
