Pine Nut Processing Plant & Machinery Solutions
Pine nut processing extracts the seed from the pine cone, removes the hard seed shell and the thin inner skin, and grades the kernel for retail and food service. Cones are dried until the scales open, seeds are separated from cone debris, and the kernel is then shelled, peeled, dried gently, colour sorted and sealed.
Complete Pine Nut Process Flow
Harvested cones are dried until the scales open and the seeds can be shaken free and separated out. Cone scales, resin and stalk waste leave with the seed stream and are removed on the same pass.
Empty and part-filled seeds, grit and stones are separated out and the seed is sized so shelling can be set to each band. Empty seed taken out here does not travel through the rest of the line or dilute the shelling yield.
The hard outer shell is cracked and separated from the kernel by air and density, with shell fragments drawn off. Pine nut kernel is small and soft, so the handling through this stage is deliberately gentle.
The thin skin left clinging to the kernel is rubbed off and the kernel is dried back to a stable condition. Skin flakes and dust are drawn away by suction as they are released.
Kernels are colour sorted to remove dark, broken and shrivelled seed, checked for metal, then weighed and filled. The kernel is high in oil, so vacuum and gas-flushed packs are used for retail and export.
