Oregano Processing Plant & Machinery Solutions
Oregano processing turns harvested oregano into dried leaf, rubbed leaf and ground oregano. The cut herb is washed, dried gently so the leaf keeps its colour and volatile oil, then stripped from the stalk, rubbed to size, sieved free of stalk pieces, steam treated and packed.
Complete Oregano Process Flow
Cut herb is washed and rinsed to remove field soil, grit and insects. Surface water is shaken and blown off, because wet leaf entering a dryer wastes most of the heat.
Leaf is dried in low-temperature air so the green colour and the volatile oil are not driven off. Conditioned air keeps the drying rate steady across the load.
Dried leaf is stripped from the stalk, which is the step that decides the grade. The stalk fraction is separated by air, since stalk in the pack is a common complaint on dried herbs.
Leaf is rubbed or cut to the sieve size ordered, whether whole, rubbed or ground. Steam treatment is applied to reduce the microbial load carried in from the field.
Dried oregano is filled into pouches or sachets, metal checked and cased.
