Medicinal Herbs Processing Plant & Machinery Solutions
Medicinal herb processing prepares roots, leaves, barks and seeds such as ashwagandha, tulsi and brahmi for use in ayurvedic and herbal formulations. The material is cleaned of stones and metal, washed, cut, shade or hot-air dried, then pulverised and sieved into a graded powder, or taken forward for extraction.
Common Process Flow
Field-collected herbs carry soil, grit, stones and stray metal, which are separated on air-screen and density-based cleaners. Cleaning first protects the cutters and mills further down the line.
Roots and rhizomes are washed to lift remaining soil, and woody stems are separated from leaf and flower material. Only the plant part named in the formulation is carried forward.
Cleaned herbs are cut or shredded to a uniform size so they dry evenly rather than case-hardening on the outside. Hard roots and barks are chipped before they go to the dryer.
Cut herbs are dried in trays or on a moving band under warm filtered air to bring moisture down for safe storage. Drying air temperature is kept moderate on aromatic herbs so the volatile fraction is not driven off.
Dried herbs are pulverised and sieved into the mesh grade the formulation calls for. Grinding is run with dust collection because dry herb powder is light and readily airborne.
Where an extract is wanted rather than a raw powder, the herb is boiled or macerated in a jacketed vessel and the liquor is separated and concentrated. The concentrate is spray dried onto a carrier to give a free-flowing extract powder.
Herb powders carry a natural microbial load, so batches are treated before packing. Cleared powder is filled into pouches or sacks, metal-checked and cased.
