Fly Ash Handling & Processing Plant Machinery Solutions
Fly ash processing takes the fine ash collected from thermal power plant flue gas and prepares it for use in blended cement, concrete, bricks and blocks. Dry ash is conveyed pneumatically into silos, while pond ash is dried first. The ash is then classified, sometimes ground, and despatched in bulk tankers or bags.
Complete Process Flow
Fly ash is drawn from the hoppers under the power plant's precipitator and moved in a closed pneumatic line, because dry ash cannot be handled in the open. Air and ash are separated again at the silo.
Ash is stored in silos and kept aerated at the cone so that it continues to flow. Extraction to the process or to the loading spout is by screw conveyor or elevator.
Ash recovered from ash ponds is wet and lumpy and has to be dried before it can be classified or ground. Dried ash rejoins the dry handling line.
Fly ash is separated by air into a fine fraction used in cement and concrete and a coarse fraction used in bricks and fill. Fines are recovered from the air stream in cyclones.
Coarse ash and pond ash are ground where a finer, more reactive product is wanted. Tramp iron is removed ahead of the mill.
Processed ash leaves either through a bulk loading spout into a tanker or through a bagging line. Bags are closed, stacked and moved to loading.
Silo vents, transfer points and the bagging line are held under negative pressure so that ash does not escape into the plant. Collected ash is returned to the silo.
