Centralised Cooling Plant for Hotels, Malls and Hospitals

Occupied areas, kitchens, banquet halls and equipment rooms are reviewed to establish where cooling is needed and when. The plant room is then laid out for access, pipe routing and future service.

Chillers cool the circulating water that the rest of the building draws on. Heat exchangers separate the plant circuit from the building circuit where the design calls for it.

Heat picked up from the building is rejected outdoors through cooling towers and their circulating water loop. Fans and tower internals are positioned to keep warm discharge away from the tower intake.

Air handling units take chilled water from the central loop and deliver conditioned air into the served zones. Filtration, in-line heating and humidity control are added on the air side where the space calls for it.

Plant and air side equipment are brought onto one control system so the building is operated from a single point. Sequencing, interlocks and alarms are configured for the way the property runs through the day.

Circuits are filled, flushed and balanced, and the plant is run through trials before the building is handed over. Routine service items and spares are listed so the plant is maintained from a known parts list.
