Cement processing converts quarried limestone, clay and corrective additives into a fine hydraulic binder. The raw materials are crushed, blended and ground into raw meal, burned in a kiln to form clinker, then inter-ground with gypsum.
Complete Process Flow
Quarried limestone arrives with clay, laterite and other correctives and is size-reduced before it can be ground. Feeders draw material from the receiving hopper at a steady rate into the crusher.
Crushed material is stacked in long piles and reclaimed across the layers, which evens out the variation that comes with the quarry face. Belt conveyors move material between the stockpile and the mill feed bins.
The corrected mix is ground to raw meal and classified, with coarse material returned to the mill. Weigh feeders set the proportion of each component before grinding.
Raw meal is preheated and burned in the kiln, where it fuses into clinker nodules. Clinker leaves the kiln hot and is cooled before storage or grinding, and the hot air recovered from cooling is returned to the process.
Cooled clinker is ground together with gypsum, which controls the setting behaviour of the finished cement. Tramp iron is removed ahead of the mill and the ground product is classified to the fineness the grade calls for.
Finished cement is stored in silos and drawn off either as bulk for tankers or through a bag packer. Filled bags are closed, stacked and moved to the loading bay.
A cement plant releases dust at every transfer point, so crushers, mills, silos and packers are vented to collectors. Recovered dust is returned to the process instead of being discharged.
