Dry beans are tipped into intake and carried through cleaning to remove soil, pod pieces, straw and dust. Ferrous tramp metal picked up during harvest and transport is taken out at this stage.

Beans sit close in size to field stones and soil clods, so this separation works on density rather than screen size alone. Light, hollow and insect-damaged beans are lifted away in the air stream.

Whole beans are traded by size grade, so the cleaned lot is split into count fractions on graded screens. Undersized and broken beans are diverted into a separate stream.

Beans are polished to lift dust and field soil off the seed coat and give an even surface. Dust drawn off during polishing is collected rather than released into the plant.

Colour sorting takes out discoloured, spotted, mouldy and off-variety beans. Beans destined for export are then checked for stone, glass and metal before bagging.

Graded beans go into retail packs or woven sacks for bulk and export despatch. Filled sacks are weighed, stitched, palletised and wrapped for transport.
