Incoming grain, cake and bran are screened to remove chaff, husk, stones and tramp metal. Clean material is elevated to storage so that milling is not interrupted by foreign matter.

Cleaned ingredients are ground to the particle size the ration calls for, since particle size governs how well the mix holds together and how the animal digests it. Ground meal is sieved and oversize material returned to the mill.

Each ingredient is drawn from its own bin and weighed against the formula for that batch. Recipes and batch records are held in the plant control system so the same ration repeats from batch to batch.

The weighed batch is blended dry, then oil, molasses and liquid micro-ingredients are sprayed in while mixing continues. Even distribution of the micro-ingredients through the batch is what makes the feed nutritionally consistent.

Mash is conditioned with steam to soften the starch, then pressed and formed into pellets. Hot pellets are cooled and hardened before they are handled further, otherwise they crumble in transit.

Fines are screened off and returned to the process, leaving whole pellets for despatch. Feed is filled into sacks, stitched closed and stacked for loading.
